  • Love the Stow n Go, Hate the seat design - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

What I hate about this minivan is the design of the driver and passenger seats and the inability to adjust the shoulder strap down another inch or so to prevent the strap from rubbing a sore spot on my neck, I am 5 4" tall. I think these two things should be a priority. The main reason I bought a DGC was for the Stow n Go seating, and I was impressed that the second row of seats would adjust back to provide more leg room. I will not buy another American car unless I can find one in which the seats are comfortable and the seatbelts adjust to fit me.

  • My Grand Caravan is crappy - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Many, many, many little problems. Automatic doors not working, burnt out taillight, automatic doorlocks not working, stuck headrest, brakes had to be replaced at 17,000 miles, random noises, AC blower not working, driver side electric window not working. We had a 96 before, drove the wheels off of it and had no problems. Someone at the factory must have been drunk when this lemon rolled out the door.

Ive owned this van for 39 months now and the only problem I have had with it is an occasional sticking rear electric hatch. Some times latch doesnt want to release. Waiting for it to do it more often before I take it in to be fixed. Outside of that, I have had no problems at all with it. I bought it mostly because of the stow-n-go seating as I carry a lot of stuff. They are great along with those deep storage bins. The van is very quiet and the ride is smooth. The A/C is a strong feature here in hot Arizona. Cools the van right down. My only wish is that the power steering gave me a little more road feel. Its a little to touchy and I have to watch I dont ease over in the other lane.

The interior trim in the Grand Caravan is cheap, cheap, cheap. Had the vehicle for 2 years and all the plastic parts for the back seats have cracked off. One of the cup holders is also broken. The plastic does not hold up. The rest of the vehicle is great but this trim destroys the vehicle and will keep me from buying a new one.

I was very nervous about buying this vehicle, mainly due to dodges reputation for reliability, however, I must say I have yet to find anything wrong with the van since we bought it, and I do have 3/36000 before I need to worry. Our is loaded cept for a sunroof and nav system. Everything is working perfectly.

  • Nice in and out, but... - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

It is a nice van to drive. Replaced a 96 Villager with 120,000 miles. Much better ride - smoother and better handling. Only problem so far is that Dodge (maybe this was a mistake) installed the base AM/FM CD with a single disc DVD. The end result is that headphones are not supported by the radio.... So, if the kids want to watch a DVD that is the audio that comes over the 6 speakers. Later models in the 05 have corrected this, and it is no longer an option to combine these two from the factory. But, it seems silly to have a DVD player that doesnt have a separate audio source.

I think this van is a great find. It handles great, has a nice design and is very comfortable. The stow and go seating is an awsome addition, it was always difficult getting the seats out of my old van. I get decient gas milage concidering its a van. The only complaints I have about the van are that after only 6 months a couple of the seat side panels fell apart (screws fell out) but the dealer promptly fixed them at no charge of course. There was also a recall on the van (something to do with the heat/AC system), but that was also quickly fixed. I think if you want a nice van at a decent price, then this van is a good choice.

Were very pleased with the features and functionality of this new Dodge van. The 3.8L engine performs very well, its powerful and gets good mileage. The interior is silent, the stereo/CD/audio quality is great, the Stow-N-Go seats and other features are well thought out and handy.

  • Great Family Van, or "Travelwagon". - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

We bought our 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SE used in 2011 with 90,000 miles on the odometer for our trip to Nauvoo. That van was the best vehicle for driving to Nauvoo! We were able to fit all of our luggage, etc. in the van with absolutely no problem (one seat removed). In 2012, we drove to Yellowstone National Park and the van performed very well. Some reviewers say that the 3.3L V6 is somewhat underpowered, but it performed well for us. We have had some issues, though. We did have to replace the brakes, and the power steering reservoir. Overall, we enjoyed the van until it was totaled in an accident. Its since been replaced with an 07 T&C LX Stow n Go that is even better! Highly recommended

  • Electrical Problems - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

I bought the SXT when it was a year old (with 13,000 mi.), it was joy at first. A few weeks ago the instrument cluster began to flicker (warning chime, ABS and sealtbelt lights briefly illuminate, and the flickering begins). I was told it was normal, and since then the headlights have begun to flicker. The van is in the shop for the 3rd time. The dealership has it until they are able to duplicate the problem, and hopefully fix the problem.
